Description

Internationally acclaimed saxophonist Doug Masek will be the soloist with the FSSO on 2 September. The orchestra will be conducted by the exciting young winner of the Len van Zyl Conductors' Competition Brandon Phillips.
The Los Angeles Times stated that Masek's playing is "smooth, sinuous and glowing with the requisite rich color". The Daily Review in Oakland, California wrote that "Masek plays with dazzling virtuosity".
To commemorate the 80th birthday of the Bloemfontein composer Noel Stockton, Masek will be playing two works by Stockton: Gossip for alto saxophone and String Orchestra and the world premiere of Saxo-Rhapso. The themes of Saxo-Rhapso are all drawn from Jazz and Jazz orientated compositions, and the nature of the piece is Rhapsodic.
