Piet Moolman

LTCL, FTCL, UPLM, HED, BMus (Hons), MMus

Piet Moolman has been the manager of the FSSO since January 2008. He has extensive experience in planning and managing the performing arts.

As Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa he’s been responsible for strategic planning and development of one of the leading orchestras in the country since 2003.
He studied piano at the University of Pretoria where he obtained his B Mus and a B Mus (Hons) degrees. During the same period he also studied conducting under prof. Henri Arends. In 1991 he completed his MMus degree at the University of Pretoria. Several bursaries and prizes were awarded to him during that time and he was selected to take part in the Second International Piano Competition at Unisa.
He is married to the violist Jeanne-Louise Moolman with whom he has performed several concerts in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and several other places in South Africa. The duo also had a very successful tour to Zimbabwe.
The world-renowned South African composer Stefans Grové dedicated his Sonata for Viola and Piano to this husband and wife duo. They premiered the work in 1994 - a performance that was described by the Pretoria News as one of the musical highlights of that year.
In 2012 Piet was invited to conduct the Bulawyao Festival Orchestra during the bi-annual Bulawyao Music Festival. As conductor he worked with soloists like Leslie Howard (piano), Peter Martens (cello), Juliette Bausor (flute) and the piano duo Cody Green and Leigh Harold.
